Choijin Lama Temple Museum to hold online tour

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Within the framework of World Monuments Watch 2020 international program, the Mongolian Arts Council has announced that the "Watch day" program to visit the Choijin Lama Temple Museum will be organized online on the May 17.


The e-tour will help attract domestic and foreign investment in the restoration and conservation project by promoting Choijin Lama Temple Museum to international donators, and to obtain technical advice and assistance from international restoration experts.


As part of Watch Day, online tour of the temple building and architecture will be held, as well as an e-learning course on crafting Tsam masks with paper towels. Moreover, an unveiling of a VR exhibition that recreates the stone monuments and the church building of Choijin Lama Temple Museum that were destroyed during the repression is planned.


Since the beginning of 2020, the Arts Council of Mongolia has been constructing a granite pavement on a 1,100m2 area of the museum’s land, green area in 3,500m2, and 50 parking lots in 7,350m2 with the funding provided in the scope of “Cultural Treasure” grants program by the MCS Holding LLC and donators and supporters will be involved in the planting of 888 trees and shrubs on May 17-25.

The World Monuments Fund included Choijin Lama Temple Museum in the 2020 World Monuments Watch, one among 25 iconic and monumental sites of great historical significance and contemporary social impact. 


25 sites from 22 countries included in the 2020 World Monuments Watch are at risk due to urbanization, over-construction, accidents, natural disasters, mismanagement, political unrest and conflict. Choijin Lama Temple Museum has been selected as one of the historical and cultural sites at risk due to urbanization, over-centralization, reckless planning and lack of funds, and has the opportunity to receive technical assistance and donations from international donations and restoration specialists.
