Foreign Minister meets Vice President of Millennium Challenge CorporationPolitics
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On November 11, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Tsogtbaatar held a meeting with Anthony Welcher, Vice President of the Department of Compact Operations of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The meeting focused on the implementation of the USD 350 million Water Compact established in July 2018 between the Government of Mongolia and the MCC.
During the meeting, both sides agreed that the Water Compact is important to increase the available supply of water in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar while promoting the sustainable livelihoods of the Mongolian people and economic growth and maintaining environment and ecological stability. They also reaffirmed their willingness toward close cooperation and quick exchange of information regarding the project with the purpose of successful implementation.
With the USD 350 million investment from the US Government, major development works will be carried out, including the construction of new groundwater wells and a state-of-the-art plant for purifying drinking water as well as a new plant for treating and reusing wastewater.
