Int’l workshop on counter terrorist financing and spread of mass destruction weapon held

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Regional workshop on countering the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (by non-state actors) by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was hosted in Ulaanbaatar on September 17-19. 


Delegates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, officials from the UNODC, the committee to oversee the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1540 regarding the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and Middlebury Institute of International Studies of the US took part in the workshop. 


Presentations on activities and efforts carried out by the UN on countering the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, corresponding international standards, UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions targeting Islamic State, sanctions against Islamic State, actions to combat financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and asset freezing delivered at the workshop. 


From Mongolia, representatives of the Bank of Mongolia, Financial Regulatory Commission, Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs, General Intelligence Agency, Independent Authority Against Corruption, Police Department, Customs and taxation authorities attended and gave information on relevant issues.
