Etienne Krug: Enhancement of cooperation between sectors crucial in reducing accidents

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A consultation team led by Director of the WHO Department for Management of Noncommunicable Diseases, Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention Etienne Krug is working in Mongolia between September 16 and 20 to give professional and methodological support on partnership, task allocation and integration between sectors in prevention of accidents.


On September 16, Minister of Health D.Sarangerel received the WHO Department Director. She said, “The children under the age of 18 that take 38 percent of our total population is the main power of the future development of Mongolia. However, the number of annual deaths of children due to injuries reach 52.” Highlighting that this number is higher than the number of children in one class, the Minister thanked Dr. Etienne Krug for his significant contribution to efficiently organizing cooperation between sectors in aims of reducing accidents and injuries.


During his visit, he organized a meeting under the theme, ‘Multilateral cooperation in reducing accidents and injuries’ on September 17 as well as a presentation meeting under the theme, ‘Health sector countermeasures against child abuse, and WHO guidelines’ and a high-level meeting between sectors on injuries and abuse on September 19.
