Closing meeting for BIOFIN project takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The closing meeting of the project, ‘The Biodiversity Finance Initiative’ (BIOFIN), co-implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the UNDP took place on June 20 to review the project implementation. 


The project was implemented in aims of raising the required funds to implement the national programme on biodiversity of Mongolia and formulating plan and solutions to source the financing from available foreign and domestic resources.


With the initiation and support of the Ministry, the BIOFIN project kicked off in September 2015 to define new strategies and measures to be taken to implement the government policy. 


Initiated by the UNDP, the BIOFIN project was launched at the UN Biodiversity Conference in October 2012 and the project is currently being implemented in over 30 countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. 


In his opening remarks, Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat noted the high significance of the research done in the project framework in defining possible ways and solutions to use available resources for the required funding to protect environment as well as implementing the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 and the Sustainable Development Agenda and in determining the source of financing, and expressed willingness for further partnership.


Alongside introducing the current state of the policy on environmental protection and its institute, and how the necessary financing was determined, the national consulting team for the BIOFIN project put forth the suggestion for the most appropriate, sustainable solution to using available resources.
