Mongolia receives 238 thousand foreign tourists in the first half of 2018

The latest figures of foreign travelers visiting Mongolia reveal that the number of visitors reached 238.1 thousand, increased by 21.1 thousand or 9.7% compared with the same period of the previous year. Most of foreigners of 84.2% travelled for up to 30 days, 14.3% for more than 90 days and remaining 1.5% for 30 to 90 days.
There are 202.7 thousand or 85.1% of foreign passengers visited for tourism purposes, showing an increase of 21.9 thousand passengers or 12.1% compared with same period of the previous year. The remaining 35.4 thousand passengers or 14.9% came for purpose of work, study and permanent residence.
Compared with the same period of 2017, notable growth is observed in tourists coming from the Kingdom of Thailand at 464 or 79.6%, the Republic of Turkey at 494 or 58.7%, the Republic of Indonesia at 82 or 47.1%, the Russian Federation at 12296 or 28.7% and the Republic of India at 204 or 26.3%. However, a decline is observed in visitors from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at 319 or 59.5%, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam at 231 or 51.1%, Malaysia at 167 or 23.6% and Japan at 1526 or 17.4%.
