Mongolia’s role in relations of South and North Korea highlighted

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Prior to the high-level meeting between the leaders of Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea and Unites States of America, an International Forum on Korean Unification is taking place today in Ulaanbaatar.
The forum was organized by Global Peace Foundation, EastWest Institute, One Korea Foundation (USA), Action for Korea United (AKU), Mongolian Forum for Korean Unification and Blue Banner NGO and the participants highlighted the necessity of connecting development of Korean Peninsula to new era and the deepening of the relations between two Koreas.

President of National Strategy Institute of the Republic of Korea Dr. Jin Shin, said that another aim of the meeting is to highlight the historic significance of the 100th year anniversary of Korean Independence Movement which befalls on March 1, 2019.
Today’s forum is one of the events that are to be organized in scope of this anniversary. Besides Mongolia the events will be held in the countries that are connected with Korean Independence Movement including India and Japan until March 1, 2019. There will be discussions on the themes ‘Prospective of Korean Peninsula’s New Spring Union’, ‘Pressing issues in Northeast Asia-Solutions’ and ‘Economy of the Northeast Asia’.
The organizers said that the meeting in Mongolia, which maintains good relations with both Koreas, intends to highlight Mongolia's role in promoting inter-Korean relations and contribution to regional peace and stability. A Mongolian delegate expressed that the country has been striving to be an active intermediary in Northeast Asian issue.

In order to demonstrate its neutrality and nuclear weapon free status through diplomatic activity and to promote greater trust and cooperation in the region, Mongolia is implementing policy and actions such as ‘Ulaanbaatar process’ and ‘Ulaanbaatar dialogue’ and actively cooperating with other states.
