140 young ballet dancers competing in Mongolian National Ballet competition

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the second ‘Mongolian National Ballet’ competition kicks off on the stage of the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet on May 28.
 
The organizers noted that the competition is aimed at discovering new young ballet dancers, developing their talent, and introducing reforms and changes of the world ballet art.

Some 140 pupils majoring ballet at professional level are competing in age categories of 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18. The competition will conclude tomorrow, announcing the winners.

The winners will be awarded with a right to participate in a gala concert of the First International Ballet Competition to be held at the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet on June 1.

Founder of the Mongolian Ballet Development Foundation and State Honored Artist D.Altankhuyag said that it has been almost 60 years since ballet art started developing in Mongolia. In recent years, the number of ballet schools has increased significantly. Judges from German and Kazakhstan have arrived in Mongolia to judge the competition which aims to discover young talented dancers and give them opportunity to represent Mongolia on the international platform.

“Moreover, an organizing committee of the international ballet competition was was formed, electing its board. By doing so, a new door is opening for the development of Mongolian ballet. We will welcome anyone who values and appreciates the classic art,” D.Altankhuyag noted.

Over 100 participants challenged their skills in the first ‘Mongolian National Ballet’ competition, which took place in 2016.
