Parliament heads hold official talks

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On April 30, Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament M.Enkhbold and Chairman of Lower House of the Irish Parliament Seán Ó Fearghaíl held official talks at the State House.
Wishing him a convenient stay in Mongolia, M.Enkhbold said, “This year, it marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Mongolia aspires to develop relations and cooperation with Ireland, member of the EU, in all sectors.” The visit will give a significant contribution to expand relations between the two countries and strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, noted the Speaker.
Thanking for cordial welcome, Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl emphasized that his visit targets on two main purposes which are to stimulate inter-parliamentary cooperation and expand cooperation between the two countries in all possible fields.
By means of deepening people to people relations, there is a full opportunity to strengthen friendship relations and develop mutually beneficial and broad cooperation in animal husbandry, agriculture, tourism and education, underlined Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl.
“Ireland is a country that developed its agriculture well. It is popular with its culture of fast horse and race as horse raising. Tourism is one of our main sectors. Like Mongolia, our country has beautiful nature and many historical and cultural memorial sites. Therefore, it will be more productive to cooperate in these fields. Moreover, there are a number of world-class universities and institutes in Ireland, thus we are willing to train Mongolian youth, alongside holding contacts with Mongolian universities,” said Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl.
He also said that Ireland aspires to expand cooperation with Mongolia and to be its good third neighbor, representing the EU.
In turn, Speaker M.Enkhbold said, “Favorable legal environment is very important to create a possibility to deepen cooperation between the two countries. Therefore, we need to make more efforts on this matter. As you have said, we have wide potential to develop successful cooperation in education, agriculture and tourism sectors. Alongside, we are willing to develop relations in the fields of combating terrorism and defense.”
Moreover, he expressed an interest to train Mongolian professionals in taxation and financial management and agriculture in Ireland, involve agricultural professionals in training and send agricultural interns to Ireland. Underlining that the people-to-people relations are a basis of inter-country relations and cooperation, Mr Enkhbold requested Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl to pay an attention on providing favorable living and employment conditions for about 1000 Mongolian expatriates in Ireland.
Mr.Enkhbold said, “Mining is the main economic sector of Mongolia. Products and raw materials of the sector make up about 90 percent of the country’s total export. We have set a goal to change it to diversity economy, develop agriculture intensively based on its resource of about 70 million head of livestock and augment its food export. We believe that cooperation with Ireland will play an important role for it and agricultural ministries of the two countries will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in near future. It will build a foundation to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the sector”.
He also proposed to develop cooperation in tourism sector and establish a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between corresponding ministries.
In addition, Mr Enkhbold expressed Mongolia’s commitment to keep traditions of bilateral active cooperation within the UN and international organizations and support Ireland in the 2020 election of UN Security Council for non-permanent seat.
In turn, Chairman of Lower House of the Irish Parliament Seán Ó Fearghaíl expressed his agreement with proposals and initiatives of Mongolian counterpart and said that he would touch on matters regarding cooperation in education, agriculture, tourism, defense and combating terrorism, when he meets with corresponding ministers of Mongolia.
He supported Mongolian Speaker’s proposal on organizing events to publicize culture and history of the two countries in either Ulaanbaatar or Dublin, within the celebration of the 20th anniversary.
In the end, Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl invited Mongolian Speaker to visit Ireland at his convenience.
