Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Minister of Foreign Affairs of Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis paid a courtesy call on Mongolian President Kh.Battulga on April 5.

Visiting Mongolia on April 4-6 at the invitation of his Mongolian counterpart D.Tsogtbaatar, Ignazio Cassis discussed with the President about some projects and programs of Swiss development cooperation.

President Kh.Battulga thanked Switzerland for its continued support during the transitional period of Mongolia in 1990s. “Since 2012, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has been establishing Citizens’ Chambers in Mongolia, which connect citizens with the government. Currently, there are about 500 citizens’ chambers throughout the country. The SDC has spent about CHF11 million on this project. Mongolia has a vast territory, but its infrastructure is not developed well. For instance, citizens living in over 2000km away from Ulaanbaatar can connect immediately to the government through the Citizens’ Chamber; thus we are interested in continuing this project and building their capacity,” said the President.

In turn, Ignazio Cassis said that the SDC’s approved projects until 2021 target on promotion of good governance, agricultural development and conservancy. We have been maintaining development cooperation with Mongolia for about two decades. We also cooperate in international level. Further, we have an interest to widen bilateral economic cooperation.”

Moreover, the President expressed a willingness to cooperate closer in defense sector to learn Swiss practices of military structure and management and introduce it into Mongolia. The President asked the Swiss Minister to touch upon this matter during the talks with Mongolia’s Foreign Minister.

In the end of the meeting, the Swiss FM promised to convey the message to the relevant Minister of Switzerland to make it real work.
