Parliamentary delegates attend the IPU Assembly

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Mongolian parliamentary delegates led by deputy Speaker L.Enkh-Amgalan took part in the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland on March 24-28.
 
About 1600 parliamentarians from over 140 countries, including 69 Speakers and 216 women parliamentarians, gathered in the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. They discussed key issues such as strengthening the parliamentary contribution to the global compact for migration, sustaining peace as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development, tackling women’s underrepresentation in politics, engaging the private sector in the development of renewable energy, and building sustainable and resilient societies.
 
Representing Mongolian Parliament, deputy Speaker L.Enkh-Amgalan and MPs L.Bold, B.Saranchimeg and O.Baasankhuu attended the assembly. During the Assembly, MP L.Bold took part in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, MP B.Saranchimeg –in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, whilst MP O.Baasankhuu attended the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.
 
Deputy Speaker L.Enkh-Amgalan participated and gave a speech at the General Debate ‘Strengthening the global regime for migrants and refugees: The need for evidence-based policy solutions’.
He said, “Although this is not yet a pressing issue for Mongolia, Mongolia, as a member of the United Nations, observes carefully all events happening in the world countries and is ready to make its contribution to actions for safeguarding peace.  
 
Besides, Mongolian parliamentary delegates took part in the meeting of IPU’s Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, at which an assassination case of Mongolia’s late MP and acting Infrastructure Minister S.Zorig was discussed. At the meeting, L.Enkh-Amgalan said, “Since 2000, the IPU issued over 50 resolutions and decisions regarding the case and requested Germany, Japan and the UK to give legal supports in concern of the case. Accordingly, Germany rendered technical assistance in investigation of the case, collaborated with Mongolian side in analyzing the evidence and is still on paying attention on the action.” L.Enkh-Amgalan expressed the earnest gratitude on behalf of the people and parliament of Mongolia.
