Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On January 30, D.Lundeejantsan, MP and head of Parliamentary Standing Committee on State Structure, met with Beate Trankmann, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the UN Development Programme Resident Representative for Mongolia.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on a new project ‘Towards a Professional and Citizen-centered Civil Service in Mongolia’ to be implemented in 2018-2021, funded by Canadian Government.

D.Lundeejantsan stressed out of an importance of studying from countries with plentiful experiences of civil service and introducing it to Mongolia. “Enforcing the revised Law on Civil Service properly will bring considerable improvement in public services. Stable, impartial, professional and citizen-centered civil service is a result we expect, for which our cooperation plays an important role,” he said.

In turn, Beate Trankmann said, “Sustainable civil service will play a vital role to achieve its sustainable development goals. It is well timed that the project implementation matches with the adoption and start of enforcement of the revised Law on Civil Service from 2018. The Government of Canada collaborates with Mongolia on civil service reform since 2010, providing recommendations on formulating the revised bill on Civil Service and rendering professional assistance on building capacity of the Civil Service Council. Overall purpose of the project is to render professional support and assistance to formulate rules and methods required to enforce the Law on Civil Service and support implementation of the law by means of building required capacity of state servants and government organizations.”

D.Lundeejantsan emphasized the long-term cooperation between the Parliament of Mongolia and the UNDP and put forward a request to collaborate for formulating a revised Bill on Administrative and Territorial Units and Their Governance in frames of the project Strengthening of Local Self-Governing Bodies in Mongolia.
