Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On January 15, Deputy Health Minister L.Byambasuren met with Megan Murray, Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard Medical School, and representatives of ‘MHI’ Mongolia’s NGO.

At the meeting, she introduced about a result of the study on link between Vitamin A levels and prevalence of tuberculosis (TB), conducted in Peru by experts of Harvard Medical School.  The study found that vitamin A deficiency associates with an increased risk of TB; thus, vitamin A supplement may be an effective method for preventing new TB infections.
The professor said that likewise higher rates of TB and epidemic vitamin D deficiency in Mongolia, the vitamin A deficiency could be high amongst population; therefore, a possibility to conduct related research in Mongolia is now being studied. Professor Murray conducts scientific study and researches on epidemiology of infectious diseases, especially specialized in molecular and genomic epidemiology of TB.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on abovementioned matter and others. Deputy Health Minister thanked Professor Murray for her important studies and said that the Ministry will show all-aspect supports.
