Parliament to ratify Paris Agreement
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At its meeting held Monday, the cabinet decided to submit to parliament a draft law on ratifying the Paris Agreement, a document within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
When passed, the law builds up legal grounds for Mongolia to implement the UN Framework Convention and opens up more opportunities to provide socio-economic inclusive growth, protect environment, develop industries with less emission of greenhouse gas, boost green development as well as promote international and regional initiatives in response to climate changes, implement pertinent projects and programs after getting access to multilateral financial mechanisms and to introduce progressive technologies.
The cabinet also backed a bill on ratifying the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol. In accordance with the law on international contracts, it will be consulted with a relevant Standing committee of parliament.
