Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets President of the International Olympic Committee
On the 19th of this month, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the leader of the Mongolian team for the “Gangwon 2024” Winter Youth Olympics B. Battsetseg met with the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. Foreign Minister Battsetseg provided information to the President of the IOC about the development of our country's sports and the team athletes. The discussions also covered the possibility of expanding cooperation in the future, and opinions were exchanged on the sports education of youth.

According to the preliminary result of the annual livestock census, by the end of 2023, Mongolia has 64.7 million head of livestock, of which 29.4 million sheep, 24.6 million goats, 4.8 million horses, 547 million cattle, and 473.9 thousand camels.

The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, is taking place successfully.Mongolia has officially announced the activation of tourism in 2024 under the slogan "GoMongolia." In connection with this announcement, an event was held in Davos on the 18th of this month, involving prominent guests and participants of the World Economic Forum. On this occasion, Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai presented the importance of the 'Go Mongolia' brand, the results of last year's “Welcome to Mongolia,” and Mongolia's economic recovery to the international representatives, inviting them to attend the annual Mongolian Economic Forum in Ulaanbaatar in 2024.

Start-up Business Owners to Participate in Sushi-Tech Tokyo Exhibition

Mongolian Premier Meets Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai met with Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair on January 18, 2024, during the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai said he was happy to meet and exchange views with an influential world politician, and thanked Mr. Tony Blair for having clear information about Mongolia as he had visited Mongolia three times and met with the Presidents and Prime Ministers. The Prime Minister highlighted that in 1992, Mongolia consistently chose the path of democratic development and adopted its democratic Constitution. Over the past 30 years, we have gone through a lot of challenges to develop the basic values of democracy, such as speech, publishing, voting, being elected, and religion. However, he is pleased to say that Mongolians have consistently made progress in the development of democracy. Mongolia values learning from good international governance experiences. The Premier emphasized that significant progress has been made in strengthening democracy.

French Artists Won First Place in the International Competition of Ice Artists
As part of the development of winter tourism, the “Mazaalai” ice town was created. On this occasion, the “Save Mazaalai” international competition of ice artists was organized for the first time in Mongolia. Twenty-four artists from 12 teams across seven countries—Russia, China, Thailand, France, America, and Mongolia—participated in the competition. To protect and cherish Mazaalai bears, ice artists competed to express new and innovative ideas related to Mazaalai bears in their creations. Ice artists imbue their work with personal meaning. For instance, in one creation, sand is depicted flowing out of a palm, symbolizing the decreasing population of this animal. The French team secured first place, the Mongolian team took second, the Yakut team claimed third, and the Russian carvers earned a special place.

Land for New Kharkhorum City to Be Taken under State Special Needs
During its regular session on January 17, the Cabinet supported the draft resolution on taking a total of 189,363.19 hectares of area in the territories of Ugiinuur and Khashaat soums of Arkhangai aimag, and Kharkhorin soum of Uvurkhangai aimag under the state special needs with a purpose for establishing a New KharKhorum city.

President of Mongolia: It Is Time to Realize the “National Resilience Building Strategy”
The strategic gathering of the leadership of the armed forces was in an expanded form under the theme "Risks and Challenges of Mongolia's Existential Security and the Shift in Leadership Perspectives". President of Mongolia and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa participated in the gathering and gave instructions to the management team. He noted that it is time to develop and implement a "National Resilience Strategy" based on defense and disaster management systems. This strategy aims to prevent possible dangers, threats, and disasters, overcome them with minimal damage, and ensure the capacity and readiness of the state to rebuild society. He tasked to increase the readiness of classes, units, management staff, to enhance joint training, and to coordinate weaponry techniques, management, and organization according to unified policies and standards.

Mongolian Premier Meets President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai met with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, during the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister noted that over the past 17 years, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has provided financing in the form of loans and investments for a total of 137 government and private sector projects in Mongolia. This has made a valuable contribution to the diversification and development of the economy. He also expressed gratitude for the joint implementation of the project to build two additional lanes on the Ulaanbaatar-Darkhan Road. Furthermore, they exchanged opinions on expanding cooperation in the future, such as jointly implementing the capital's highway infrastructure, exits, metro construction, and urgent projects like border port modernization and port road construction in Mongolia.

Support Expressed for the Government's Continued Fight Against Corruption
Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai met with Francois Valerian, Chair of Transparency International, during the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. During the meeting, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai discussed some of the legal initiatives aimed at reducing corruption crimes in Mongolia. The Government of Mongolia designated 2023 as the "Year Against Corruption," approved the "National Anti-Corruption Program," and, as a result of addressing corruption at the systemic level, uncovered more corruption cases than in previous years. Consequently, according to the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index, Mongolia's corruption indicators are expected to be pulled back. However, the government remains committed to fighting corruption at both systemic and legal levels and will consistently pursue its goal of eradicating corruption.
