Khovd /MONTSAME/. Specialist of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Ralph Abrise, and Consultant at Mongolian Association of Leather Industry Ian Leach worked in Khovd aimag. They held a meeting with the aimag governing body on November 13. During the meeting, the sides discussed methods for leather preservation and storage, and opportunities for supplying it to the market. They also discussed partnership to introduce a technology that will improve leather quality in Khovd aimag, by selecting a soum to test the technology.
Previously, an international workshop was organized under the theme, ‘Improving the quality of preparing sheep wool’, by UNIDO with financing from EU in aims of introducing the practice of processing sheep wool using automated machines, and cost estimation in Khovd aimag. This time, a training has been organized on the technology to improve leather quality in the aimag, introducing the method to acquire leather without damaging it using special equipment.
Officials noted that as undamaged leather prepared with special equipment is considered of high quality, opportunities to sell it on the market for a high price, and developing it into a final product will increase.
