Wreaths laid to the Mahatma Gandhi monument
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On the occasion of the birthday of the leader of the Indian independence movement, freedom fighter and founder of the nonviolent theory Mahatma Gandhi, the Embassy of the Republic of India in Mongolia held wreath laying ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi monument in Ulaanbaatar.
According to the Indian tradition, flower petals were sprinkled to the monument of Mahatma Gandhi and monks chanted mantras. In 2007, the UN declared the October 2, Gandhi’s birthday, the International Day of Non-Violence. Since then, the people of India celebrate his birthday nationwide and promote his teachings to the younger generations.
Chargé d'Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Mongolia O.P.Meena said “Mahatma Gandhi opposed the religious and gender discrimination and stood for equity around the world. The 2019 marks the 150th birthday anniversary of Gandhi. In this regard, events dedicated to the anniversary will be organized starting today until September 30, 2019. Within the framework of the events, the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention is being held in New Delhi, India. Delegation from the Ministry of Health is representing Mongolia at the conference. Famous influencers including Aung San Suu Kyi, Nelson Mandela and Dalai Lama spread Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and teachings around the world.”
Former President of Mongolia N.Enkhbayar noted “Mahatma Gadhi, one of the outstanding figures of the XX century, was a beloved man of not only Indians but also of people of the world. He showed how one can fight against the power of the state with nonviolence. Also he was an inspiration to lots of people, bringing meaning and purpose to their lives. Mahatma Gandhi was a vegetarian, who could pull himself out of bad habits. His actions attracted people. He has won the people’s hearts. His teachings and actions are still alive and I am delighted to participate in the memorial event of this person.”
MP J.Batzandan, MP Ts.Munkh-Orgil, head of Mongolia-India Parliamentary Group in Mongolian Parliament B.Undarmaa, head Khamba Lama of the Dashchoilin Monastery Ch.Dambajav, Ambassadors of Belarus, Vietnam and UK, students of the Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic College of Production and Art, and Indian expats in Mongolia attended the wreath laying ceremony.
