National Tree Planting Day approaching

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 2017 Sapling and Seedling exhibition opened at the Central Cultural Palace of Mongolian Trade Union on October 10 ahead of the National Tree Planting Day.
Initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and co-organized by the Ministry’s corresponding units and Department of Environment of Ulaanbaatar, the exhibition is participated by more than 40 entities, featuring their and products and seedlings of numerous plants and providing guidance on how to grow plants successfully.
At the exhibition, barberry seedlings are sold at MNT 4,000-5,000, acacia seedlings--MNT 1,500, elm--MNT 700, aspen and lilac--MNT 2,000, sea buck thorn--MNT 3,500, apricot--MNT 5,000, larch--MNT 10-15 thousand and grass seed--MNT 25 thousand.
Ts.Byambasuren, a specialist of the Department of Forest Policy Management at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, said that there is increasing need to plant trees every year. According to experts, planting trees in autumn proves more fruitful than planting in spring. When the ground freezes in winter, saplings adjust to the soil and thus re-grow fast in spring.
The National Tree Planting Day will be observed on October 14. Mongolia began marking a tree-planting day in 2011 when 7,689 entities and 220 thousand citizens planted one million and 754 thousand trees. Last year, 3,755 entities and 92,911 citizens partook and planted 770,507 trees nationwide.
The Forest Law of Mongolia states that it is mandatory for citizens aged above 16 and entities to plant trees.
