Confederation of Mongolian Journalists elects new President

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Confederation of Mongolian Journalists has elected a new President to lead the non-government organization for the next four years.
The participants of the Congress elected Mandakhbayar Kharkhuu, editor of Zindaa magazine as the successor of B.Galaarid with 87.5 percent support through a secret poll. The newly elected President pledged to put diligent efforts into realizing his action plan and broadening the reach of the Confederation.
The new President’s action plan includes measures such as developing professional and independent journalism, improving journalistic ethics, implementing 1000-apartment program for journalists, including journalists in risk insurance, strengthening legal environment surrounding journalism, making structural changes in the CMJ and expanding foreign relations of the CMJ.
Mandakhbayar’s rivals in the poll were D.Enkhtuya, founder of TV-2 channel, and T.Oyun-Erdene, member of the National Board of the Mongolian National Broadcaster. Although nominated, L.Ninjjamts, Director of the Mongolian National Public Radio and Television and senior journalist U.Khurelbaatar, State Honored Cultural Figure withdrew their names from the poll.

Moreover, the CMJ’s code of conduct was modified at the 17th Congress. In compliance with the new code of conduct, the Board members will be appointed by the Conference, the President will be non-party, a new member organization will pay a one-time tax of MNT 1 million, and the members of the Board and the Conference will be responsible for failure to pay their taxes, the amount of which was also fixed.
