Crop loss on 90.3 thousand ha predicted

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Grain crop on 90.3 thousand hectares, of which 77.7 thousand hectares of wheat, will be lost due to extreme hot and drought, noted P. Sergelen, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, during the State Harvest Commission's meeting held today.
This year nationwide, grains were planted on 393.6 thousand ha, of which 367.2 thousand ha for wheat, potatoes on 14.9 thousand ha, vegetables on 7.5 thousand ha, oil plants on 78.2 thousand ha, fodder plants on 28.2 thousand ha and medical plants on 1.9 thousand ha.
A total of 271.8 thousand tons of grain, of which 259.2 thousand tons of wheat, 102.3 thousand tons of potatoes, 75.7 thousand tons of vegetables, 23.6 thousand tons of oil plants and 47.3 thousand tons of fodder plants are expected to be harvested.
According to preliminary estimation, the total crop to be harvested would satisfy 52.5 percent of flour, 74.5 percent of the potatoes and 44.6 percent of vegetables of domestic needs. Farmers say that in most areas of the country also experienced drought in 2015 and this year crop could be more by 100 thousand tones than in 2015 a result of improved cultivation.
