Ovorkhangai counts 4.5 million heads of livestock
Economy | AgricultureUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ According to results of the 2015 census of animals, Ovorkhangai aimag counted four million 541 thousand and 986 heads of livestock, showing an increase of 399 thousand and 471 heads against 2014.
In 2015, Ovorkhangai had 23,128 heads of camels, 280,197 heads of horses, 217,599 heads of cattle, two million 021 thousand 762 heads of sheep and one million 968 thousand 300 heads of goats. Comparing to the 2014 results, the number of camels went up by 1,158 heads, horses--by 33,247, cattle--by 34,334, sheep--200,712 and goat--130,020.
The aimag’s Bogd soum counted the biggest number of livestock (344,728 heads), others were Bayan-Ondor soum (340,934 heads), Burd soum (324,788 heads), Bayangol soum (315,280 heads) and Uyanga soum (295,293 heads). Togrog soum had the smallest number of animals (147 thousand heads).
The increase in livestock number may be explained by the nice weather in last years and by improvement in herding techniques, the aimag’s governor D.Tortogtokh commented.
As of present, agricultural products account for 53 percent of the aimag’s GDP, its economic growth has soared by 10%.
