Ulaanbaatar, May 30, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Construction of flood-prevention retaining walls along the Selbe River is scheduled for completion on June 30, 2025.

Within the framework of the “Selbe Revival” Project, a 1.4-kilometer-long, 4-to-4.5-meter-high, ferroconcrete anti-flood wall is under construction. As of now, the construction of 1.2 kilometers is done.

R. Damba, Project Manager of “Bilguun Mongol Construction” LLC, conducting this project, explained: “The flood-prevention facility we’re building covers the 41st khoroo of Bayanzurkh district and the 1st khoroo of Sukhbaatar district. These territories encompass large areas of apartment districts and some of the city's main streets. Thus, massive wirework infrastructures like cable wires and heat lines installed by the Selbe river have been contributing to slowing the process down. The floodwall construction is currently 80 percent done. To prevent hindering any traffic, concrete-mixing operations take place during night shifts.”

Moreover, once the floodwall is built, additional construction work like stream channel adjustment, scour protection fence, and riprap is to be done by August 30, 2025.

Head of Landscaping and Waste Management Department of Ulaanbaatar City Mayor’s Office, G. Bilguun, stated: “Upon completion of the floodwall, landscaping work will begin. Landscaping blueprints were prepared by the Urban Planning and Research Institute. Now, a technical inspection from the “Construction Development Center” of the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development is pending. Landscaping work will entail green areas, recreational facilities, lights, pedestrian zones, and cycle tracks.”
