Ulaanbaatar, May 12, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Under the “Billions of Trees” National Movement initiated by the President of Mongolia, the “Billions of Trees” Non-Governmental Organization for Public Service, with the support of MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, established a maple tree park on the premises of “Chinggis Khaan” International Airport on May 9, 2025.
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the “Billions of Trees” NGO and MASHAV, the establishment of the tree park was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Forestry Department of Mongolia, the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Mongolia, and the Honorary Consulate of Israel in Mongolia.
Culture Attaché for Culture, Academy, and Science Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Gabriella Admon-Rick, along with representatives from “New Ulaanbaatar” International Airport LLC, the Mongolian Customs General Administration at “Chinggis Khaan” International Airport, the Immigration Agency of Mongolia, the Civil Aviation Police Division of Mongolia, Unit 0218 of the Mongolian Border Troops actively participated in the tree planting efforts.
Since the 1950s, Israel has been implementing aforestation initiatives to protect the environment and combat desertification and land degradation, increasing its forest cover from just 2 percent of its territory to 8.5 percent as of today. Using a smart tree irrigation system, areas once dominated by desert have been transformed into a “greenbelt”.
Of more than 100 species of maple trees worldwide, five to six types are grown in Mongolia. Known for their tall growth, wide leaves, and many branches, maple trees are frequently planted in public areas and along roads. Leaves of the maple tree have the characteristic of turning pinkish red in autumn.
