Ulaanbaatar, January 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Lawyers and journalists in Mongolia have jointly launched the “Cognitive Circle,” a legal journalists’ club aimed at enhancing the accessibility of legal information to the public, protecting public interests, and strengthening justice.
The collaboration between lawyers and journalists not only improves the quality of legal information dissemination but also brings notable changes to society. International lawyer-journalist collaborative organizations such as the U.S.-based “The Marshall Project” and “ProPublica,” the UK’s “The Bureau of Investigative Journalism,” France’s “Mediapart,” and Germany’s “Correctiv” had remarkable results. Additionally, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) serves as a prime example of the power of collaboration between lawyers, researchers, and journalists. The ICIJ's work exposing global issues such as corruption, human rights violations, and illicit financial flows has led to tangible changes. Legal professionals and journalists under the “Cognitive Circle” believe it is time to introduce similar practices in Mongolia.
Through providing legal advice to journalists, lawyers help advance their legal knowledge, avoid legal risks, and contribute to strengthening justice. The “Cognitive Circle” club will not only disseminate information but also provide advice and guidance to lawyers and journalists, offering them legal tools to develop strategies to safeguard sources and protect public interests. The club aims to make the information-sharing process more effective and facilitate structured reforms. The initiative seeks to elevate legal journalism to a new level, ensuring the delivery of trustworthy and factual information to the public, and driving positive societal change.
