Postage Stamps for 60th Anniversary of Mongolia-Switzerland Diplomatic Relations Unveiled

Ulaanbaatar, May 20, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Unveiling Ceremony of Postage Stamps commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Switzerland was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia on May 20, 2024.


State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Ankhbayar Nyamdorj opened the ceremony and said, “Mongolia has a tradition of issuing special postage stamps to commemorate the decennial anniversaries of diplomatic relations.” State Secretary Ankhbayar expressed confidence that bilateral relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Switzerland would further expand.



Member of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland and President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federal Assembly, Laurent Wehrli said in his remarks, “Although Mongolia and Switzerland are geographically far apart, we have overcome many challenges and have expanded the fruitful relations and cooperation between our two countries. The national musical instruments, Tsuur and Alphorn, depicted on the commemorative postage stamps symbolize bridging any divide, strengthening of harmony, and friendship to stand the test of time.”



The commemorative postage stamps “60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between Mongolia and Switzerland” depict Khuiten, the highest peak (4374 m) of Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain range and one of the famous mountains of the Alps, the Matterhorn (4,478 m), and Tsuur players and Alphorn players dressed in traditional costumes, eagles flying in the sky, the national flowers of two countries- Ber Tsetseg (Scabiosa Comosa) and Edelweiss (Leontopodium Nivale), and the 60th anniversary logo. 



In the creation of the postage stamps, the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Swiss Cooperation Office and Consular section in Mongolia, State Honoured Athlete of Mongolia, Mongolian First Seven Summiteer B. Gangamaa, Cultural Merit Laureate, Tsuur player B. Naranbat, and Senior Diplomat and Postage Stamp Advisor O. Batsaikhan gave professional advice and assistance. 


In the 100-year history of Mongolian postage stamps, the first stamps regarding Switzerland appeared in 1960 with the theme “Red Cross.” Mongolia established diplomatic relations with Switzerland on May 22, 1964.
