Buuruljuut Coal Mine-Based 300 MW Power Plant Reaches 50 Percent Completion

Ulaanbaatar, March 7, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On March 6, 2024, Minister of Energy of Mongolia B. Choijilsuren presented to the Cabinet session the results of negotiations with the project investor on comprehensively addressing issues regarding the construction of the Buuruljuut 300 MW power plant and a new 220 kW overhead transmission line of Buuruljuut-Sergelen within the framework of the Baganuur-Buuruljuut 200 kW overhead power line project by making amendments to the Power Sale and Purchase Agreement.


The Ministry of Energy of Mongolia instructed the management of the "National Dispatching Center" to amend the Power Sale and Purchase Agreement signed between and "Tsetsens Mining and Energy" LLC and the "National Dispatching Center" regarding the construction of a 220 kW two-circuit overhead transmission line in the direction of Buuruljuut-Sergelen to increase the amount of electricity produced annually by the station from the current 5500 hours to 7096 hours, and transfer it to the "National Power Transmission Grid” State Owned Joint Stock Company for free.


As part of the 2020-2024 Action Plan of the Government of Mongolia and the “New Revival Policy,” “Tsetsens Mining and Energy” LLC is currently implementing a 300 MW power plant project based on the Buuruljuut coal mine in Bayanjargalan soum of Tuv aimag. Construction is 50 percent complete. The first phase, comprising a 150 MW block, is scheduled to commence operations in October 2024, with the second phase, also 150 MW, planned for operation in October 2025.
