Khuvsgul aimag, March 4, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The "Blue Pearl" Ice Festival took place for the 22nd time in Khatgal soum of Khuvsgul aimag on March 2-3, 2024, bringing together over 50 thousand domestic and foreign tourists.

To protect Khuvsgul Lake, revered as the “Mother Ocean,” and to develop winter tourism, in 2000, D. Lkhagvatsogt and J. Tumursukh, who worked as Environmental Inspectors of Khuvsgul Special Protected Area, organized an ice festival at the location known as “Santiin Uvur” where about ten sled horses were raced.

During the Ice Festival, over 20 riders tested their skills and agility in the Horse Sleigh Races on the frozen lake and fascinated visitors. To expand the scope of the Race, Citizens' Representative Khural of Khuvsgul Aimag has decided to confer titles and certificates upon the horse trainers securing the first position in the race. Moreover, the Festival offered various particular activities and competitions, such as the performance of the musical band "Qirwa Anka," the symbol of the traditional culture of Ecuador, South America. Approximately 700 foreign tourists from 17 countries participated in this Festival.

Mongolia, especially Khuvsgul aimag has the opportunity to develop winter tourism. Therefore, this year, with a focus on promoting Mongolia internationally, the Ice Festival was held in collaboration with the Governor's Office of Khuvsgul aimag and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia. Bambuu, and ARTGER, content creators on Mongolian cuisine displayed nomadic cooking, capturing the attention of hundreds of domestic and international guests.

The "Blue Pearl" Ice Festival was organized with a commitment to being free of garbage, ensuring environmental friendliness in every possible way. Tourists expressed their satisfaction with the Festival, and domestic and international attendance has been steadily growing.
