Six Mongolian Players Top the Podium at World School Chess Championship

Ulaanbaatar, April 24, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The FIDE World School Chess Championship (WSCC), a part of the 4th Rhodes Chess Festival, took place in Rhodes, Greece from April 13 – 23, 2023.  


Representing Mongolia, 30 players competed in the Championship against over 530 players from 53 countries.  


The captain of the Mongolian Chess Team was E. Nomin, an experienced International Judge of Chess Compositions. Moreover, five coaches supported the Team, training and guiding each player. Together, the captain and coaches worked to devise effective game strategies and make tactical alternatives, ultimately leading the Team to success on the international stage. 


The very demanding and highly competitive matches came to an end, with the winners crowned in each category. Mongolia rounded off the Championship with six medals, specifically Ts. Gerelt-Oyu and B. Buyankhishig captured the top spot on the podium. 


A peculiar match was the battle between two Mongolian compatriots, Gurvanbaatar Urangoo and Naranbold Sodgerelt, which decided the 2nd and 3rd places in the G13 category.
