Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On May 19, the unveiling ceremony for the postage stamp issued for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs N.Ankhbayar, Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia Kobayashi Hiroyuki, and Executive Director of Mongol Shuudan JSC B.Ankhbaatar.

As both of the two countries have centuries-old tradition of literary culture, the theme for the postage stamp brings together the two countries’ cultures by writing a Japanese haiku poem in the traditional Mongolian script alongside depicting the vast Mongolian steppe, bird cherry flowers, and the Japanese sakura.

Aside from being the 17th stamp with a theme relating to Japan, it is the 1,099th type of stamp released in Mongolia.

For instance, postage stamps were issued on occasions such as the XVIII Summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo in 1964, the International Stamp Exhibition held at Expo ‘70 as well as in the years of 1991, 2001, and 2011, the XI Winter Olympic Games held in Sapporo in 1972, Mongolia-Japan friendship themed postage stamps in 1994 and 2000, and the 30th, 35th, and 40th anniversaries of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
