President attending General Debate of 76th session of UN General Assembly

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh attended the opening of the General Debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, which began on September 21 in New York.

 

During the opening of the General Assembly, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted that in order to restore trust, strengthen unity and inspire hope, the world needs to strengthen cooperation, dialogue and understanding. Furthermore, he stressed that there is a need for a global vaccination plan to at least double vaccine production to ensure that vaccines reach seventy percent of the world’s population in the first half of 2022.

 

The President of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid, said that for a year and a half the world suffered in silence and anxiety, and waited, and that the countries should not wait any longer, but vaccinate the population and push for a recovery. He further noted that during his presidency he would focus on human rights, climate change and strengthening the UN.

 

The 75th session of the UN General Assembly was held virtually in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this year more than 100 countries will personally attend the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly at the level of Heads of State and Government addressing the challenges facing the global community and exchange views on further policies and actions.

 

The President of Mongolia will deliver a statement on the second day of the General Debate on September 22 to express Mongolia’s position on pressing issues of international relations. The General Debate will continue until September 27, 2021.
