Agricultural cooperation with France discussed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Z.Mendsaikhan had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Mongolia Philippe Merlin and representatives of the Embassy of France to review bilateral cooperation in agriculture.

 

The cooperation between the two countries in agriculture has been expanding in a mutually beneficial way in recent years. In efforts to introduce intensive animal farming and meat and dairy production technologies, beef and dairy cattle, dairy goats, and sheep raised for wool production were imported and businesses in those industries were given support.

 

At the meeting, Minister Z.Mendsaikhan underscored that the micro loans from French food aid fund have been of great help to herder families in rural areas.

 

The Minister also thanked Ambassador Philippe Merlin for playing an important role and providing support in launching the ‘Piloting an improved animal identification and registration system in Mongolia’ project with funding support from the World Trade Organization’s Standards and Trade Development Facility.

 

The sides agreed to further cooperate in having Mongolian sea buckthorn’s geographical indication registered. 

 

Ambassador Philippe Merlin was awarded ‘Leading Agricultural Worker’ decoration in recognition of the efforts he made in elevating diplomatic relations between the two countries, and particularly expanding cooperation in agriculture, and increasing bilateral trade by the order of the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
