Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. EU funded and FAO implemented ‘Support to employment creation in Mongolia’ project is introducing  new method for sterilizing lambs and calves using electrocautery device, a technique developed by Ch.Nilbaatar, local scientist and veterinarian, for rapid increase of animal live weight.

Scaling up now takes place in Darkhan-Uul, Khovd, Khuvsgul, Selenge and Tuv aimags where around 1800 lambs were sterilized and raised in open range before being sent to slaughtering in October, 2020.

Ts.Bolorchuluun, Director of Policy and Planning Department of MoFALI made onsite visit to ‘Erdene Khuns’ meat processing plant in Bayandelger soum of Tuv aimag where 746 lambs of 16 different herders are raised using the same technique, which incites herders to early commercialization of young animals as a way to reduce traditional slaughtering age for significant economic return and better rangeland management.
