Commemorative coin released for the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Bank of Mongolia has released commemorative gold and silver coins as part of its "Revolutionaries" series featuring renowned politicians who have influenced the world.
The front of the coin portrays Mahatma
Gandhi, dressed in traditional Indian clothes khadi kurta, while the reverse marks MNT 1000 vertically written in Mongolian script.
The
commemorative coin release ceremony was held in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Mongolia, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia at the Ministry's Nomin Hall on October 2.
In his speech delivered at the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Mongolia M.P.Singh emphasized the need to write a new history of Mahatma Gandhi's social transformation, the dream of inclusive growth in a free India, the empowerment of all segments of society in addition to Mahatma Gandhi's principle of peace and non-violence.
Deputy Foreign Minister B.Munkhjin spoke about the
importance of Gandhi's values in the modern world, emphasizing that this
event coincides with the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations between the two countries.
Governor of the Bank of Mongolia B.Lhagvasuren noted that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and strategy of non-violence in international relations are still pioneering and that he has made valuable efforts to build a society against hostility and discrimination.
At the ceremony, singer E.Ariunbileg, who sang a song of the Indian TV series "Buddha" in Mongolian, sang Gandhi's favorite song "Vaishnav Jana To". In addition, Gandhi's quotations in Mongolian and an Oscar-winning film "Gandhi" with Mongolian subtitles were also shown to the guests.
