Mongolia’s initiative to designate 2026 as an international year of rangelands and pastoralists approved

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The initiative of the Government of
Mongolia (The Ministry of Food Agriculture and Light Industry) to designate
2026 – The international Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists was approved by
the Committee on Agriculture by UN FAO.
The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists aims
to increase a worldwide understanding of the importance of these lands to
global food security and environmental services, and call attention to the need
for sustainable management and enlightened policies in both developed and
developing countries.
The Green Gold, Animal Health project of the Swiss
Cooperation in Mongolia and Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User
Groups of Herders have been supporting the Ministry of Food Agriculture and
Light Industry on the preparation the of proposal and the creation of
international awareness on the importance of sustainable rangeland management.
