Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During the “Information Hour” event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 24, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry L.Munkhtushig briefed about timely issues.

Since the outbreak of the global pandemic, Mongolia has repatriated its 18.392 citizens from 52 overseas countries. More than 4000 citizens are returning home only this month through 17 charter flights arranged to Australia, USA, Kazakhstan and other destinations.

As of today, 12461 citizens have submitted their requests to return home from 53 countries. Among them over 2400 citizens made requests to return from the USA, over 4500 citizens from the Republic of Korea and around 1100 citizens from Australia.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been taking measures to help Mongolian nationals who are in financial difficulties starting from last April in cooperation with foreign and domestic organizations. In particular, 185 Mongolians arrived home from Prague, the Czech Republic with the help of International Organization for Migration while some citizens stranded in Brazil and Turkey have been provided with food and other aids. Furthermore, food and financial assistance have been rendered to over 200 households or some 1000 citizens residing in Turkey from the Fund of Assistance to Mongolian Citizens living abroad in June.

“On the basis of an article outlined in the Law on COVID-19 prevention, fight and mitigation of its socio-economic impacts, MNT 300 million has been accumulated to the Fund of Assistance to Mongolian Citizens living abroad from citizens’ donations to the State Emergency Commission. A decision related to it was made recently and requirements for providing support to citizens in financial difficulties will be set in detail,” Mr. Munkhtushig said.
