Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On August 4, MP J.Chinburen attended the 3rd virtual conference on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, organized by the International Parliamentary Union. The virtual conference was organized under the theme ‘COVID-19 and Climate Change’.
The previous two meetings, held in June and July this year, touched issues regarding economies and gender equality in times of pandemic. This time, parliamentarians and experts discussed the need to focus on environment and climate change issues and adhere to green growth policy in developing solutions to overcome the economic difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the virtual conference, MP J.Chinburen briefed
out Mongolia’s response to COVID-19. He said, “The Mongolian Parliament and Government
are taking optimal measures to prevent and fight the COVID-19, which still assures
Mongolia to be one of few countries without the community infection. Step-by-step
measures are being taken to ensure the SDGs and prevent environmental and
climate change. For example, Ulaanbaatar city air pollution has been reduced by
50 percent as a result of the implementation of a policy on reduction of raw
coal consumption and increase the use of refined coal. It is
expected to reach 80 percent this year.”
“Moreover, a ger area redevelopment work is being
intensified, along with ongoing measures to provide families with apartments. A
policy aimed at increasing the use of electric vehicles is being pursued,”
added the MP.
