During the ceremony, D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, presented the certificate of inscription of the ‘Traditional technique of making Airag in Khokhuur and its associated customs’ on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to Yo.Baatarbileg, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and representatives of relevant organizations, such as G.Enkhbat, Director of the National Center for Cultural Heritage, B.Taivanjargal, Executive Director of the ‘Airgiin Nutgaar’ NGO, and N.Urtnasan, Head of the Nature and Heritage Protection Foundation.

At the 14th Session of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place on December 11, 2019 in Bogota city of Colombia, the Mongolian traditional technique was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Since its joining in the UNESCO 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, a total of 15 cultural elements of Mongolia have been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2008-2019.

In his speech delivered during the event, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar said that the postponement of the ceremony amid COVID-19 would have slowed down the process of promoting the heritage and its value to the public so that the ceremony was organized in accordance with the current situation. He also stressed the importance of the role of the Mongolian people in preserving, protecting, passing on, disseminating and promoting the heritage that the Mongolians have inherited for thousands of years.
