Biodiversity to be conserved with participation of locals
EnvironmentKhovd/MONTSAME/. An
implementation of a project ‘Biodiversity and adaptation to climate change’ officially
started in Khovd aimag.
On March 28, a team of experts led by ECO Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) Hartmut
Abberger worked in Khovd aimag. During the visit, the team held a meeting with
local authorities, exchanging views on the actions to be implemented within the
project, attentive issues and responsibilities and duties of the parties of the
project.
‘Biodiversity and adaptation to climate change’ is a
development project being implemented through the kfW Development Bank in
accordance with the Financial Cooperation Agreement between the Government of
Mongolia and the Federal Republic of Germany.
With total funding of 32.5 million Euros, the project will be implemented for six years until February 2027 in Uvs, Khovd, Gobi-Altai,
Bayan-Ulgii and Bayankhongor aimags.
With a decision to involve 17 soums of Khovd aimag in the
project, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Minister of
Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat, project manager of German Credit Institute
for Reconstruction (KfW) Nina Otto, and governors of the aimags in 2019.
The purpose of the project is to strengthen the management
of Protected Area Network (including the buffer zones and future ecological
corridors) of Mongolia, the conservation of biodiversity at the same time improving the livelihood of local people.
