Speaker G.Zandanshatar receives U.S. Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Mongolia Michael Klecheski on March 5. It was informed during the meeting that the Speaker’s visit to the U.S. that had been planned this month has been postponed.

 

At the start of the meeting, Speaker G.Zandanshatar expressed his gratitude for the active cooperation in having the ‘Mongolia Third Neighbor Trade Act’ discussed at the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress and supporting Mongolia in being removed from the FATF Grey List. He said, “As Mongolia is one of the countries at high risk of the novel coronavirus infection, the State Emergency Commission is taking corresponding emergency measures. One of the measures is the decision to temporarily stop foreign business trips of government officials until March 30. Furthermore, the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union have also notified that they are canceling the international events and conferences that were planned. President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga paid a visit to the People’s Republic of China, and currently, he is being isolated according to the emergency regulations that have been set. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a commitment of USD 37 million in financing for 25 countries. As Mongolia is included in the list of countries, I express my gratitude to the U.S. Department of State and government.”

 

Expressing gratitude to the U.S. Ambassador for giving support in organizing the visit that was planned during the month, Speaker G.Zandanshatar underlined the importance of acting as accordingly with the decision made by the State Emergency Commission, and postponing the visit to a later date. He then noted the significant importance of the visit in the framework of the partnership between the two countries.

 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the U.S. to Mongolia Michael Klecheski expressed understanding of the current situation in Mongolia, and highlighted that the matter of rescheduling the visit will be resolved in collaboration with the corresponding organizations.

 

The two sides also discussed matters regarding the two countries’ relations and partnership, and some current issues.
