Internal migration to be halted temporarily from February 1

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. This year, Mongolia is set to hold the eighth Parliamentary elections. According to the Election law, the Parliament must announce the polling day at least 60 days in advance of the event. 


Head of the General Election Commission Ch.Sodnomtseren said that a bill on the polling day for the 2020 Parliamentary election is under preparation, which will be submitted to the Parliament in the near future. The General Election Commission proposed to organize the polling on June 24, 2020. A proposal on the distribution between constituencies in accordance with territorial extent and population will also be submitted to the Parliament. 


In line with the recent amendments to the Law on Elections, citizens’ internal migration is to be suspended nationwide starting February 1, 2020 until the end of the day after the Election polling day. Which means, there will be no registration of citizens’ movements to different administrative units during this period.
