Agriculture Minister visits Argentina

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation headed by Minister of Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan paid a working visit to the Argentine Republic between March 20 and 24.


During his visit, Minister Ch,Ulaan took part in the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation and met with his Argentine counterpart Luis Etchevehere. The sides exchanged views on cooperation in the control of foot-and-mouth disease in Mongolia and agreed to explore the possibilities of establishing a joint meat plant and enhancing cooperation between private sectors of the two countries. They also talked on the works to be carried out under the Mongolia-Argentina Intergovernmental Agreement on Technical Cooperation and decided to devise a joint plan of action.



The Mongolian delegation visited the National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) of Argentina. Showing the delegation around, Vice President of SENASA Guillermo Luis Rossi spoke of an opportunity to cooperate in livestock registration and improvement of foot-and-mouth disease control in Mongolia. A proposal was made by the department to send its specialist to Mongolia and embark on a project on foot-and-mouth disease control.



Moreover, Adolfo Luis Cerioni Assistant National Director at the National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA) of Argentina proposed conducting joint studies and employing the institution’s specialists in Mongolia this April to implement a program on providing livestock with nutritious feed in winter.



The delegation led by Minister Ch.Ulaan also got acquainted with operations of the Biogenesis Bago company that produces foot-and-mouth vaccines and touched upon the possibilities for carrying out animal health projects and programs in Mongolia.
