Study on inscribing deer stone complex site in World Heritage List ongoing

Khuvsgul /MONTSAME/ A preliminary study on inscribing cultural complex site with deer stones at Uushgiin Uvur in the UNESCO World Heritage List is being conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the Mongolian National Commission for the UNESCO, Foundation for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage NGO, Institute of History and Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Khuvsgul aimag.  
 
A deer stone-khirgisuur complex site locates in Ulaan Uushig Mountain of Burentogtokh soum of Khuvsgul aimag and a group of 30 deer stones are there. This complex site is considered as the largest with its number of statues and plays an important role in research of khirgisuur and the deer stone culture. Engravings of the statues were kept differently and the statue with image of human face is the most special.


 
The shortest deer stone is 133 cm while the highest is 375 cm and the statues are made of granite stone in reddish and ash gray colors.
 
Inscribing this cultural site in the World Heritage List has importance to promote Mongolia and Mongolian culture and heritage to the world, to conserve them with joint efforts of global community as well as to draw tourists.
