First Mongolian Seven Summiteer perpetuated on postage stamp

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A presentation ceremony was held on March 19 for the postage stamp block themed ‘First Mongolian Seven Summiteer, Honored Athlete of Mongolia B.Gangaamaa’  at the conference hall of the Central Sports Palace.
 
This is the second postage stamp dedicated to the mountain sports. The first stamp themed ‘Mongolian alpinists at the Himalayas’ was issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Mongolian National Climbing Federation on April 1, 2001.
 
The postage stamp portrays swan couple flying over the Vinson Massif, Mount Elbrus, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Denali, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Mount Kosciuszko and Mount Everest and B.Gangaamaa standing in front of it raising the flag of Mongolia.
 
Illustrator Ch.Bat-Erdene and designer J.Gankhuyag worked on the creation of the stamp with the professional advice from Physical Culture and Sports Authority. Total of 15 thousand stamps were issued.
 
B.Gangaamaa started her mountaineering in 1989 from the Mount Otgontenger, and the 30th anniversary of her climbing career will be marked in 2019. She is the most frequent climber to the native highest peak, second Mongolian and the first female alpinist to conquer the Mount Everest.
 
Total of 416 alpinists from 61 countries reached the Seven Summits  by 2016, 18 of which are women.
