Snow and reindeer festival promotes culture of ethnic groups

Khuvsgul /MONTSAME/ Snow and reindeer festival took place near Zuulun Mountain in Renchinlkhumbe soum of Khuvsgul province. The festival was organized by the Integrated Livelihoods Improvement and Sustainable Tourism in Khuvsgul Lake National Park Project.

Snow and reindeer festival has taken place among locals of Renchinlkhumbe soum in the past seven years. As for this year, the festival was organized with an aim to promote tradition and culture of Darkhad people to the public, involving bordering soums, 40 foreign tourists, 19 photographers, journalists from Russia and Inner Mongolia.

The festival also aimed at showing traditions and culture of local ethnic groups, combination of snow and reindeer and how they adapt to extreme weather of Khuvsgul.

During the festival, varieties of events were held such as assembling teepee aka Urts, Mongol ger, and treating domestic and foreign tourists with Darkhad, baavar and bark teas, boiled dumpling and soup with bistort herb.
Additionally, Shaman N.Bold from Ulaan-Uul soum conducted shamanic ritual to introduce shamanism in front of the festival visitors and prayed for them.

Organizers of the festival underlined that they set an aim to expand scope of the festival into international festival to contribute to development of winter tourism.
