Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Search operation began around 6.20am on October 24 on Otgontenger Mountain in Zavkhan aimag and two more bodies were found at 9.43am.

After 17 mountaineers went missing in a snowslide on Otgontenger Mountain (4,008m) on October 21, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted a search-and-rescue mission to find ten bodies on October 23.

A group of 27 mountaineers climbed Otgontenger Mountain on October 21 despite of a warning by local preservationist about an ordinance by Minister of Environment and Tourism that banned climbing the mountain since 2015. Unfortunately, the group was hit by a snowslide on their way down, which left 17 mountaineers stranded on the mountain. Only ten mountaineers were able to make it to the downhill.

Authorities are planning to bring the bodies and the ten survivors to the capital city on a helicopter. The ten survivors are having a psychological treatment after shock.

Early Tuesday morning, the NEMA thus resumed its operation, which is engaging about 190 personnel including professional mountaineers, parachutists, physicians and emergency servicemen, 27 vehicles and two helicopters.

The search groups are staying at the operation base located at 2,775 meters. Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin is working on the site to monitor the operation and issue instructions.
