First Annual Green Financing Forum takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The First Annual Green Financing Forum took place on September 5 under a theme ‘Turn opportunities into reality’ at the Tuushin Hotel.

This Forum aims to present the Mongolia’s green development policy, its support and global trend of the green development to businessmen, to reduce energy consumption, to provide businessmen with necessary information for starting up environmentally-friendly business, to introduce to them some opportunities for overcoming financial difficulties and to propose solutions.

Organized by the XacBank, the Forum was attended by D.Oyunkhorol, Minister of Environment and Tourism, administrative officials of the XacBank, the Green Climate Fund, and small and medium-sized business owners with certain topics on the Green Climate Fund, its financing, ways of making business eco-friendly and overcoming problems.

The Minister made the opening remarks, saying that consequences from natural disasters are affecting the people, especially, those who are living in vulnerable condition, because of an increasing frequency of disasters caused by the climate change. So, it is now vital to overcome natural disasters with less damage by correctly forecasting possible occurrence and to get adapted to the ongoing climate change, she said.

“It is certain that money for actions for the adaptation is impossible to be allotted from the government, but it could be done through the multilateral cooperation. Thus, companies and businessmen have to be very active in this issue dedicated to the national sustainable development in a way of deepening the public-private partnership,” D.Oyunkhorol said.

She noted some efforts are being done to get partner with financing organizations within the Paris Agreement after Mongolia joined the Agreement last year.

Since the Ministry of Environment and Tourism has been cooperating with the Green Climate Fund at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, several draft projects have been formulated on developing the energy, infrastructure and agricultural sectors in connection with the climate change adaptation policy.
