Judokas grab two medals on first day of World Championships

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian judokas claimed silver and bronze medals on the first day of the 2017 World Judo Championships started on Monday in Budapest, Hungary.

Three Mongolians competed on the first day in men’s -60 kg and women’s -48 kg divisions. Among them, M.Urantsetseg won a silver medal in the women’s below 48 kg contest. Having a bye in the first round, Urantsetseg beat her opponents from Romania, South Korea, France and Japan. In the finals, she was defeated by a Japanese judoka Funa Tonaki. The bronze medals went to Japanese and Kazakh judokas.

-48 kg silver medal is Urantsetseg’s third medal of the World Championships. She collected gold and silver medals in 2014 and 2015, respectively, at the same category.



G.Boldbaatar, a 2014 World champion, captured a bronze medal in the men’s lightest weight category. He reached the quarter finals after defeating his rivals from Turkey, France and Japan. In the quarter finals, our judoka lost to Diyorbek Urozboev of Uzbekistan. Later, in the repechage rounds, he beat Kazakh and Czech judokas.

In this division, Naohisa Takato of Japan achieved the championship title, while an Azerbaijani judoka became the runner-up. Another bronze medal went to Diyorbek Urozboev.

D.Amartuvshin, a State Honored Sportsman and a silver medalist of the 2013 World Championships, reached only third round in the men’s -60 contest.

In accordance with the schedule, the competitions' men's -66 and women's -52 kg weight category matches will take place on August 29.
