Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Approximately 66 million heads of livestock are expected to be overwintered next winter on the national level, reports the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry. Every year, more than 10 million livestock is used for meat.
Summering conditions are normal in 23 percent of the territory, while 43 percent is seeing a relatively dry summer and 34 percent, an extremely dry one. It is viewed that the drought might lead to even more difficult wintering. Therefore, 14 million livestock are being butchered for this winter’s meat consumption.
The Ministry officials say that, because pastures are dry due to scarce rainfall, there is not much grass for hay harvesting.
