G.Ariunbaatar wins Song Prize Trophy of BBC Cardiff Singer of The World

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition and laureate of the Chinggis Khaan Order of Mongolia, won the Song Prize Trophy together with Scotland’s Catriona Morrison on June 17 at the BCC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017. Having joint winners of the Song Prize is an unusual event for the BBC stage.

Mezzo Soprano Catriona Morrison was crowned as the Winner of the overall competition the next day.
Ariunbaatar, 29, closed the Song Prize finals by singing the famous The Steppes of Mongolia by Sharav, a renowned Mongolian composer.

On  June 14, Ariunbaatar was chosen as the second singer to perform at the finals. He had also been selected as one of the five finalists of the competition, joining John Chest (USA), Catriona Morison (Scotland), Iurii Samoilov (Ukraine) and Louise Alder (England).



G.Ariunbaatar was congratulated before the finals by the Mongolian President, Mr Ts.Elbegdorj via Twitter. The dignitary shared link to the video, in which Ariunbaatar sings the Steppes of Mongolia.
