Ulaanbaatar to host Int’l Conference on disaster risk reduction

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The ISDR Asian Partnership (IAP) meeting is to take place on April 5-7 at the Best Western Tuushin Hotel of Ulaanbaatar. As the host country, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of Mongolia in cooperation with the Regional Office for Asia and Pacific of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction is organizing the meeting.

NEMA is hosting the Asian Ministerial Conference of Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in 2018. In the margin of its preparation, the IAP is being held here. The Asian Partnership Meeting will be the first regional-scale meeting on this issue after the first AMCDRR, held in New Delhi.

More than 70 delegates representing Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, DPRK, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri-Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as from intergovernmental organizations, UN agencies, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and UNISDR.

IAP focuses on exchange of information on Asian regional plans and stakeholders’ roles in disaster risk reduction, reviewing final versions of plans by countries and organizations on prevention of disasters, discuss about organization of the 2nd Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction expected in Ulaanbaatar in 2018 and sharing views on the disaster risk reduction efforts, reforms and practices on the regional level.
